Your Borrowed Goals

It is WayMaker Wednesday. Today, Choose What Is Yours.

The Question

What are you chasing only because it makes your life look good to someone else?

The Thought

Stop building a life you do not want just because other people will praise it.

It is easy to copy what looks good from the outside. You see what gets respect, what earns praise, and what makes people seem sure of themselves. Then you start to want it too. Not because it fits you, but because you know others will approve.

That choice has a cost. You spend your time and strength reaching goals that leave you cold. You may even get what you chased and still feel lost, because success cannot make the wrong life feel right.

You take the job because it sounds good when people ask what you do. Then Monday comes, and you are the one who has to live it. Their praise lasts a moment. Your choice stays with you.

You do not need to prove that your life makes sense to everyone else. You need to be honest about what matters to you, what kind of days you want, and what you are willing to give your years to.

Let others choose their path. You choose yours.

Your life should feel like yours.

Put It Into Action

Try the Own Life Test.

  • Write down one goal you are working toward.
  • Name whose praise you hope it will earn.
  • Cross it out if you would not want it without their praise.
  • Choose your life.

Send this to someone who needs permission to choose their own life.

Forge Forward,
