It is WayMaker Wednesday. Stop waiting until you can see the whole way.
The Question
What step are you skipping in your head while you stand still?
The Thought
You do not need to see the whole path. You need the next step.
It is easy to live in the dream, to picture the finished thing and feel like it is almost yours. But you do not grow in the dream. You grow in the steps it takes to get there.
Every step does two things. It moves you forward, and it changes you. Skip the steps in your head, and you skip the growing too. You arrive at the dream, if you arrive at all, not ready for it.
You learn to run a business by running it. You learn to lead by leading. You get better at the work by doing the work. Badly at first, then less badly, then well. There is no version where you skip that part.
So stop staring at the top. Look at what is in front of you. What is the one step you can take today? Take it. Then take the next one.
The path shows up for the people already walking it.
Put It Into Action
This week, take the next step before you let yourself daydream again.
- Write your dream in one line. Then put it away.
- Name the one step you can take today. Not next week. Today.
- Take it before you look at the dream again.
- The path shows up for the people already walking it.
If someone you know keeps waiting until they can see the whole way, send them this.
Forge Forward,
Jon Mayo
