It is WayMaker Wednesday. Today, we are talking about what happens when you give before anyone asks.
The Question
Who around you needs something you already have, and what are you waiting for?
The Thought
Most people wait to be asked. Someone needs something, you can see it, and you hold back. You don't want to overstep. You don't want to assume. So you watch and do nothing.
But there is another way. You start giving without being prompted. Not in big ways. You notice the question no one has asked yet, and you answer it. You send the article to the person it would help. You tell someone what you see in them before they think to ask. You share the connection before they know they need it.
Here is what happens: it works. People receive it. And then something shifts in you. You get better at spotting the need before it becomes a request. You start looking for the openings instead of waiting for one.
That is the addiction. Not the thanks. Not the reputation. The thing that happens to you when you practice this: you start to see more, the giving gets easier, and the loop tightens.
It does not cost you. It builds you.
Put It Into Action
The Uninvited Gift
- Think of one person today who could use something you already have: a connection, a thought, an answer, or an idea.
- Give it without waiting to be asked.
- Notice what it does to you.
- Do it again tomorrow.
If someone came to mind while you read this, send it to them now.
Forge Forward,
Jon Mayo
