It is WayMaker Wednesday. Time to reframe the most powerful shift of your lifetime — from something to fear into something to partner with.
The Question
Are you treating AI as a tool to manage, or as a partner to build with?
The Thought
Thirty thousand years ago, a human looked at a wolf and chose partnership over killing. That wolf could have ripped their throat out. Instead, it became the dog sleeping at your feet.
Fire could burn the village down. We built hearths. Horses could crush you. We rode them into battle. Every leap in human capability came from trusting something alien enough to be dangerous and useful at the same time.
Silicon intelligence is next. And most people are using it the way early humans used fire — carefully, at a distance, asking it to write emails and summarize meetings. That is using fire to scare away predators. Useful. Not transformative.
The frontier is not delegation. It is collaboration between two genuinely different kinds of intelligence — carbon intuition and silicon precision producing work neither generates alone.
The wolf was alien. Fire was alien. The horse was alien. Each one remade what it meant to be human. The only question is whether you bring it inside or keep warming your hands from a distance.
Put It Into Action
This week, shift one task from "AI does this for me" to "AI and I build this together."
- Pick something that requires judgment, not just execution. A strategy decision. A creative problem. A difficult conversation to prepare for.
- Have a conversation with it. Push back. Tell it where it is wrong. Ask it to challenge your assumptions.
- Ask: "What did this produce that I would not have reached alone?" If the answer is nothing, you are still scaring predators.
- Partnership has always meant trusting something from a different world than yours. That is not a risk. That is the entire point.
Everyone you know is navigating this shift. Most are doing it alone and afraid. Send them this — the reframe might be what they need.
Forge Forward,
Jon Mayo
