The Most Dangerous Game Is the One You Never Question
It is WayMaker Wednesday! Time to challenge your mind, reframe your perspective, and equip yourself for action.
The Question
What extraordinary privileges have become invisible simply because you have grown accustomed to them?
The Thought
The most successful among us are those who live in alignment with what they intentionally choose to do.
If this is true, then the opposite of courage is not cowardice.
It is conformity.
And the opposite of success is not measured in material wealth alone.
It is measured in intentionality.
Most people do not fail because they lacked ability. They fail because they played a game that was never designed for them, and never stopped to question it.
They do not play better than everyone else.
They play differently.
They stopped to question life.
They think.
Instead of optimizing within the game, they transcended it.
What rule, assumption, or boundary are you accepting right now that, if questioned, broken or rewritten, would create a completely new advantage?
Put It Into Action
The Rule-Breaker's Edge + Greenlights
- Here is a three-step model to help you escape the trap of conformity and create asymmetric opportunity:
- 1. List the "rules" of your current game: Industry norms, success metrics, unspoken assumptions, self-imposed limits.
- 2. Red Team each one:
- What if you inverted, rejected, or rewrote this?
- Who would you become if this constraint no longer applied?
- 3. Design a new game:
- One that makes the old game irrelevant. Deliver value on a different axis (i.e. trust, speed, beauty, freedom, human potential).
- Matthew McConaughey's Greenlights teaches this mindset through the lens of stoplights:
- Red: Stop. Let go. Reframe.
- Yellow: Slow down. Observe. Reflect.
- Green: Go. Move. Seize it.
- You do not need permission to change the game.
- Only the courage to do it.
