It is WayMaker Wednesday. Time to expose the unsustainable, reframe leadership, and lead from overflow.
The Question
What part of me is still trying to prove I am enough by doing everything myself?
The Thought
Overfunctioning looks like strength. But it is often a disguised survival pattern, born from fear, not conviction.
When we do it all, we:
- Rob others of responsibility.
- Reinforce our own exhaustion.
- Build systems that depend on dysfunction.
We do not need to be needed. We need to be whole.
WayMakers reject the addiction to overfunctioning. They do not prove their worth by carrying more. They multiply their impact by trusting more.
The shift is simple:
From control to collaboration.
From fear to stewardship.
From being the hero to building a team of them.
If you feel constantly irreplaceable, you may be refusing to lead.
Trust is the currency of real leadership. Delegation is not a luxury. It is discipline.
Put It Into Action
Audit your calendar, inbox, and leadership patterns. Ask:
- What am I holding that I do not need to?
- Who am I subtly disempowering by overfunctioning?
- What system am I afraid to trust?
- Release one thing today. Not as a surrender. But as a strategic act of leadership.
*Who came to mind while reading this?
Forward it to them. It might be the shift they need to lead from overflow.*
Forge Forward,
Jon Mayo
