Building Legacy: The Tenth Tenet of the WayMaker Code

WayMaker Code 10

We’ve reached the tenth and final tenet of the WayMaker Code: “Build Legacy: Invest your efforts in actions that resonate beyond the present. Create lasting, positive impact.” This principle encapsulates our purpose in the WayMaker Community and our commitment to playing the ‘infinite game’ – leaving a mark that extends far beyond our immediate presence and timeframe.

The Importance of Building Legacy

A legacy isn’t just about what we leave behind; it’s about the impact we create that continues to resonate. As I discuss in “Be Relentless,” building a legacy involves a forward-thinking mindset where our actions are not just for the immediate gains but for the enduring good they will do. It’s about crafting a narrative of our lives and contributions that carry on the values and lessons we cherish.

Investing in Actions with Long-Term Impact

Building a legacy requires us to focus on actions that have long-term implications. This means thinking beyond the immediate and considering how our actions will affect future generations. It involves dedicating our efforts to causes and endeavors that promote sustainability, advancement, and positive change.

Creating Lasting, Positive Impact

Our goal should always be to create a positive impact that endures. This can be achieved through various means, such as mentoring others, contributing to community projects, or working towards societal change. In every action, we should ask ourselves how this will contribute to a better future.

Playing the Infinite Game

In the WayMaker philosophy, we emphasize playing the ‘infinite game.’ This concept involves looking beyond the immediate ‘win’ and focusing on the continual progress of ourselves, our communities, and society at large. It’s about contributing to a cycle of growth and improvement that outlives our own time.

How to Build Your Legacy

  1. Define Your Values: What are the core principles you want your legacy to reflect? Define these and let them guide your actions.
  2. Focus on Long-Term Goals: Align your efforts with goals that have lasting significance. Think about how your actions today will influence the future.
  3. Mentor and Inspire Others: Share your knowledge and experiences, or in other words, seek to pay forward the value and opportunities that you have created and enjoy. Guiding others is a powerful way to extend your influence and impact.
  4. Contribute to Sustainable Change: Engage in activities that promote sustainability and positive transformation in your community and beyond.
  5. Document and Share Your Journey: Keep a record of your endeavors and learnings. This can be a valuable resource for others and a part of your lasting legacy.
  6. Live Authentically: Let your life be a testament to your beliefs and values. Authenticity in your actions ensures a legacy that is true to who you are.

As WayMakers, let us commit to building a legacy that echoes through time. It’s about making a meaningful difference, one that carries forward our values, lessons, and aspirations. Let’s invest in actions that not only benefit us today but also pave the way for a brighter, more impactful tomorrow.

Together, let’s play the infinite game, focusing on the long arc of time and the legacy we leave behind.

Until next time, Stay Curious, Be Relentless & Forge Forward,
