Weekly Wisdom: Discernment in Leadership – Knowing When to Let Go

5-Discernment-in-Leadership-Knowing-When-to-Let-Go

Greetings Everyone,

  1. Iron Insights

“Leadership is not just about holding on; it’s about knowing when to let go.”

– Anonymous

True leadership involves making tough decisions for the greater good, and sometimes this means letting someone go. It’s a decision that should never be taken lightly, but when alignment, growth, or performance consistently falls short despite efforts for resolution, a leader must act decisively.

  1. Forge Forward

“The art of leadership is saying no, not saying yes. It is very easy to say yes.”

– Tony Blair

Saying no, or in this case, letting someone go, is one of the hardest things a leader has to do.

But it’s often necessary to maintain the integrity and progress of the team or organization. It’s about protecting the collective mission and values, even when it’s uncomfortable. Embrace this aspect of leadership as a commitment to the standards and goals you uphold.

  1. Radical Curiosity

Is there someone in your life, professionally or personally, that you need to let go?

This Week’s Charge:

Reflect on your personal life, team, and community. Is there a situation where letting someone go might be the right decision? Contemplate how this aligns with your values, personal goals, and the collective mission. Prepare a respectful and empathetic approach for this tough conversation and consider the broader impact on your life, or the team’s dynamics and morale.

Forge Forward,

Jon Mayo
